Everything first-time clients ask about tanning at our Tilehurst salon in Reading — safety, skin types, session lengths, spray tan preparation and finding us.
- Where is the tanning salon?
- We are at 10a School Road, Tilehurst, Reading, Berkshire RG31 5AL — a few minutes from Calcot, Purley on Thames and Reading town centre, with free parking close by.
- When do you open?
- The salon opens in summer 2026. Everyone on the waiting list receives the opening date, founders' pricing and an invitation to our launch evening before we announce publicly.
- Are sunbeds safe?
- UV tanning always carries risk, which is why every first visit begins with a skin type (Fitzpatrick) consultation and a conservative starting session. We follow the Sunbeds (Regulation) Act 2010: no under-18s, protective eyewear on every session, and clear session limits based on your phototype.
- How long should my first sunbed session be?
- Most first-time clients start at three minutes. We build exposure gradually across sessions rather than pushing for immediate colour, which produces a more even tan and reduces the risk of burning.
- How often can I use a sunbed?
- Leave at least 24 hours between sessions, and no more than two sessions in any week while building a base tan. Our staff record your sessions so your limits are tracked for you.
- What is the difference between a sunbed and a spray tan?
- A sunbed uses UV light to stimulate your own melanin, so the colour develops over several sessions and lasts as long as your skin cycle. A spray tan is a topical DHA solution that develops within hours and fades in seven to ten days, with no UV exposure at all.
- How do I prepare for a spray tan?
- Exfoliate and shave 24 hours before, arrive with clean skin free of moisturiser, deodorant and make-up, and bring loose dark clothing. Avoid showering, swimming or exercise until your development time is complete.
- How long does a spray tan last?
- Typically seven to ten days. Moisturise daily, pat dry rather than rub, and avoid long hot baths, chlorine and exfoliating products to keep it even as it fades.
- Do I need to book, or can I walk in?
- Sunbed sessions will accept walk-ins subject to availability. Spray tans, bridal and event tanning are by appointment so we can allow the full development window.
- Is there parking?
- Yes — there is ample free parking on and around School Road, and the salon is served by local Reading Buses routes into Tilehurst.
